Funding for the Methods Network ended March 31st 2008. The website will be preserved in its current state.

Apply for Funding

The Methods Network invites members of the arts and humanities Higher Education community in the UK to submit proposals for Methods Network activities. Activities may include Workshops, Seminars, focused Workgroups, postgraduate training events and publications.

The Methods Network is keen to support both single and cross-disciplinary proposals and those that encourage new collaborative frameworks between technical specialists and arts and humanities scholars. The primary emphasis is on the use and reuse of digital resources.

Proposals for hybrid activities such as Workshop/Seminar/Workgroup combinations are also welcomed, as are proposals for any other activity that falls within the Methods Network remit to support and promote the uses of advanced ICT methods in academic research.

Details of activities funded so far and links to outputs such as reports and workbooks may be found on the workshops and seminars pages.

The deadline for applications is 30 June 2007. Please note that all funded activities must take place prior to 31 December 2007.

Please be aware that all applicants are expected to provide fully-formed proposals with full programme, budget and projected outcome details and with particular emphasis on the research significance of the proposed activity. Applications that fail to provide all required details will not be considered for funding. Applications are expected to be of high quality; to be good value for money; and to demonstrate that they are thoughtfully conceived and carefully planned. Activity outputs must be clearly defined. For further information and advice, please contact Hazel Gardiner (hazel.gardiner@kcl.ac.uk)

Workshops

Funding of up to £5000 is available for workshops. Workshops provide training in advanced ICT methods for community members within academic institutions. They engage with issues such as: formal methods in analysis of source data and the creation of technical models; working with multiple technologies; and other matters of vital practical interest to the community.

The Methods Network will support and facilitate the publication and dissemination of training materials and resource guides that are produced for Workshops. The materials produced may also be repurposed by the Methods Network for future events, thus building capacity across the community. Recommendations for future Workshops are also expected as part of the outcome of these events.

Seminars

Funding of up to £2000 is available for seminars. These may concentrate on highly-defined topics of interest and/or problem areas within the community or may have a more general focus.

The Methods Network is keen to support both single- and cross-disciplinary proposals and those which encourage new collaborative frameworks between technical specialists and arts and humanities scholars. The primary emphasis is on the use and reuse of digital resources. Potential themes could include, for example, ways in which collaborative practice might advance scholarly achievement or issues around employing multiple technologies.

The Methods Network will support and facilitate the publication of reports based on Seminar discussions on the Methods Network website. Recommendations for strategic topics for future activities are an expected outcome of these events.

Other Activities and Hybrid Activities

Funding of up to £5000 is available for other activities and hybrid activities. Proposals for hybrid activities such as workshop/seminar/workgroup combinations are welcomed, as are proposals for any other activity which falls within the Methods Network remit to support and promote the uses of advanced ICT methods in academic research. The Methods Network would also be able to support proposals for publications.

If you have a suggestion for a hybrid activity, other activity, or publication that you feel could be supported as a Methods Network Activity, we would be pleased to consider this. Please contact Hazel Gardiner(hazel.gardiner@kcl.ac.uk) to discuss this in the first instance.
